Battles
The Battle of Plassey
British rule in India began in 1757, on June 23rd of that year, at the battle of Plassey, the forces of the East India Company under Robert Clive defeated the army of Siraj-ud-daulah, the Nawab on Bengal. Plassey was a small village and mango grove between Calcutta and Murshidabad that witnessed the most critical war. The “battle” lasted no more than a few hours. The greater number of the Nawab’s soldiers were bribed to throw away their weapons surrender prematurely, and even turn their army against their own army. Clive has won the battle by promoting treason and forgery.
The Battle of Haldighati
The Battle of Haldighati was fought between the Mughal Empire and the forces of Mewar on June 21st, 1576 at Haldighati in Rajasthan, India. It was an indecisive battle as none of the kings were captured, killed, or surrendered. Emperor Akbar had forced all Rajput Kingdoms, except Mewar to become part of his empire. He then sent a series on Mewar but failed. He then sent a series of envoys to Pratap with a peace treaty, but Pratap did not want to sacrifice Mewar’s independence. Frustrated, Akbar sent an attack. The battle lasted seven hours. A total of 18,000 soldiers were killed and the battle field turned into a lake of blood.
