The Mughal Dynasty ruled from 1526 to 1857 when Babur, who claimed descent from Ghenghis Khan and Tamerlane, swept away the remnants of the old Delhi sultanate. But, the cheif builder of the Mughal Empire was Bubar's grandson, Akbar. During his reign, he earned the name Akbar the Great because he set up a strong central government, modernized the army, encouraged international trade, standardized weights and measures, and introduced lands reforms. While doing this, he greatly promoted religious freedom and tolerance. He helped with the religious tolerance between the Muslim and Hindu people.
